Friendly short order breakfast here at Kate's with a 50's them. I sat at the counter and was immediately served. Coffee was good and I sure drank enough of it.
My ham and cheese omelet was quite large and I had them hold both the potatoes and the toast as I'm doing a keto diet. Perhaps the omelet was a little larger because of that? Either way, it was tasty and filled with finely chopped ham and plenty of cheese. A little bit of Texas Pete and it disappeared quickly.
Stick to the simple stuff and you'll have a good time.
Street parking is available.

Sign at the end of the counter said they had the best breakfast is Southwest Michigan or something like that in 2018... I thought it was just ok. It was breakfast.
It was Saturday morning, and pretty busy, but the service was not at all friendly. Didn't feel very welcome at all. I don't need anyone to kiss my butt, but it just seemed like we were a bother.
Probably won't go back anytime soon. -

First of all -- this is a cash business only and there is no sign anywhere letting you know this ahead of time. Thankfully we had cash! My husband and I both ordered cheeseburgers. We sat at the counter because all the other seats are booths and being handicapped, booths are very difficult to get in and out of if not close to impossible. Sitting at the counter, we could see that the cooking area hadn't been cleaned throughout the day. When we received our burgers, the overcooked burger was sliding in condiments. By the time I had 1/2 my burger done, the bun had completely dissolved into the condiments -- it was sloppy goop! We weren't given silverware so I couldn't cut it up and eat it. We watched the cook place a flat iron on top of the burgers and cook all the juice out of the burger even though we asked for medium -- a little pink in the middle. It was grilled dead!

Not a fancy place but great breakfast; very reasonably priced and friendly waitress. Cash only.

Not sure why this has such a high rating. Very mediocre breakfast. Barely done potatoes, weak coffee and indifferent service. No soup on Saturdays. Meh
